On May 02, 2024, the Head of the foreign policy analysis and forecasting Department of the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan met with a delegation of the Netherlands Institute «Klingendal» headed by Niels Droste, a researcher of the Center for Russian and East European Studies of this institute. The meeting was also attended by Giulia Cretti, a researcher of the EU and Global Relations Department.

During the meeting, the sides discussed topical aspects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Netherlands, as well as priority areas of multilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union and possibilities for its expansion.

At the outset, the Head of the foreign policy analysis and forecasting Department of the CSR – Ma’ruf Abdujabborov, welcomed the guests, positively assessed the friendly relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands and emphasized that their further development meets the interests of both countries.

It was noted that the UN International Conference on the mid-term comprehensive review of the goals of the International Decade of Action «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028» held in New York on March 22-24, co-chaired by Tajikistan and the Netherlands, testifies to the high level of bilateral cooperation and mutual support for joint international initiatives, as well as the commonality of views of both countries on addressing global water challenges.

In turn, Mr. Niels Drost expressed his gratitude for warm reception and provided brief information on the Institute’s activities.

It was emphasized that this was his first visit to Tajikistan. The purpose of his visit was to exchange views with Tajik experts and identify key areas where the European Union, including the Netherlands, could expand mutually beneficial cooperation with Tajikistan in the future. Niels Drost noted that their delegation intends to hold similar meetings with other specialized agencies of Central Asian countries.

In connection with the issue of interest to the Dutch delegation, Ma’ruf Abdujabborov noted that the Republic of Tajikistan has declared four strategic goals for the development of the country, and in these four areas our country is always interested in establishing close cooperation with all countries of the European Union.

In particular, our country is interested in deepening cooperation with the EU and the Kingdom of the Netherlands on the implementation of the fourth strategic goal of the country’s development — rapid industrialization.

Also, cooperation in tourism, transport, development of green energy, processing of natural resources and organization of direct routes were assessed as promising and priority areas of cooperation.

In continuation of the meeting, the sides also expressed their desire to restore and develop scientific and analytical cooperation between research centers of both countries.

The meeting was held in the spirit of sincerity, mutual understanding and constructive dialog.
